WELCOME TO YOUR TRANSITION

The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is a multiple step process.

IAW with Public Law, Individualized Initial Counseling (IC) & Preseparation Counseling must be completed NLT 365 days prior to DOS.

Service members within 24 months of their anticipated retirement date or 14-18 months of their separation date are encouraged to schedule their one-on-one Initial Counseling appointment.

In the event of an unanticipated separation or retirement, or a member of the Reserve Component is demobilized with less than 365 days, TAP must begin as soon as possible within the remaining period of service.

To contact the TAP Team, please e-mail 375FSS.AFRC.TAP@us.af.mil

STEP 1. Individualized Initial Counseling

Individualized Initial Counseling (IC) between the Service member and transition counselor is now the official start to the transition process.  IC should take place NLT 365 days prior to separation/retirement from military service.  Prior to the IC session, members will receive an email reminder with instructions to complete their personal self-assessment to identify their unique needs and transition goals.  At the conclusion of this appointment members will have an established transition plan to include scheduled appointments for all remaining requirements.

**Preseparation Counseling, TAP Curriculum workshop & Capstone will be scheduled during members IC appointment.

IC is conducted by individual appointment in-person or via ZoomGov at the Scott AFB Military & Family Readiness Center (M&FRC) every Tuesday & Thursday with one hour appointment blocks available from 0800-1100.

Step 2. Preseparation Counseling

Once IC is complete, preseparation counseling commences and must also be completed NLT 365 days prior to separation/retirement.  Preseparation counseling covers by-law information to include benefits, entitlements and resources for eligible transitioning Service members.  Caregivers and spouses are especially encouraged to attend preseparation counseling with their Service member.

**This briefing will be scheduled during your IC appointment and is designated based on post separation status (i.e. separatee/retiree).

Step 3. Transition Curriculum 3-Day Workshop

This multi-day course provides members with information and skills needed for a successful transition.  This workshop is broken down as follows:

Day 1:  DoD Transition Day:  Managing Your Transition, Military Occupational Crosswalk & Financial Planning For Transition – This portion of TAP includes curriculum modules on building resiliency by managing your own transition (MyTransition), a Military Occupational Code Crosswalk to help define and translate military skills and the Financial Plan for Transition module, which fulfills the mandated financial literacy requirement.

(Required For All – No Exemptions)

Day 2- VA Benefits & Services (Required For All – No Exemptions)

Day 3- DOL Employment Fundamentals Of Career Transition (EFCT) – Designed to lay the foundation of the transition from military to civilian life. The 1-day workshop provides an introduction to the essential tools and resources needed to evaluate career options, gain information for civilian employment, and understand the fundamentals of the employment process. (Exemptions Apply).

Step 4. Capstone

Capstone is the culminating event where a transition counselor will verify completion of required Career Readiness Standards (deliverables) as determined during the service members IC appointment.  Capstone is currently conducted via email.

**Capstone must be completed NLT 90 days prior to separation/retirement.
